Project Overview

Pixalie is a project that grew from my personal experience as a woman studying computer science. I’ve often felt like an outsider in my CS courses—like I had something to prove or like I didn’t quite belong. I wanted to channel that feeling into something useful, something that could help other women and girls feel less alone in those spaces. So, for this class project, I created Pixalie: an app that blends community, mentorship, and bite-sized learning into a Duolingo-style experience made specifically for new coders from underrepresented genders.

The process

The app includes interactive lessons, progress-tracking modules, resources for self-learning, and even mentor chat pairings and community events. The design process was iterative and layered—I began by identifying the app’s core audience and purpose, then moved through copywriting, feature ideation, pattern libraries, wireframing, and UI mockups. I gathered feedback and user testing input along the way, constantly refining how best to represent progress in a complex, multi-path system.
